Biden shows hypocrisy over OPEC oil imports
The editorial cartoon in the Herald on Aug. 18 exemplifies the hypocrisy of the U.S. government. Cancel a Canadian pipeline (KXL) and then six months later ask OPEC to increase oil production, but not the price, in order to keep U.S. gasoline consumers content. Oh, and increase imports of Russian oil to keep the gasoline refiners on the U.S. West Coast supplied. Who knew demand would increase as COVID restrictions are reduced? The U.S. has chosen foreign oil over the supply from their next-door neighbour. OPEC and Russian production are OK. No emissions? And, Oh, Canada does the same, imports 400 000 barrels/day of foreign oil. Why?
