A firefighter was killed by an off-duty fire department member at a fire station in Agua Dulce.
The incident was called in just before 11 a.m. Tuesday on the 8700 block of Sierra Highway at Fire Station 81, according to Leslie Lua, spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoFD).
“As I stand here, I stand here with a heavy heart. Today is truly a sad day, a tragic day for the Los Angeles County Fire Department,” said Chief Daryl Osby at a press conference Tuesday afternoon. “I stand here from the perspective that you see other people do, I just never thought it would be me.”
One firefighter, a 44-year-old male, was declared dead on scene, and one other was injured, according to Osby.
“It is some of the worst news I have heard in my career,” Osby said. “He was a brave, committed, loyal member of our department.”
