On May 31, the Delhi government allowed home delivery of alcohol, bringing cheer to tippler town. With thekas shut since mid-April due to the Covid lockdown, many have been longing to get their hands on a bottle of liquor. And now, they had a real shot!

The government said for home delivery, orders will have to be placed only via mobile applications or websites. Specifics were not divulged, and thence crept in the cyber frauds, targetting stay-at-home boozers.

Recently, a victim of one such scam shared her experience with the author. She said she searched the Internet for home delivery of liquor and landed on a website named “The Liquor Shop Lajpat Nagar”.

When she contacted the given number, the man on the other side asked her to share the order and location on WhatsApp, and requested for advance payment via any digital wallet platform. After receiving the money, he asked for more money for customer registration, and this was when the victim got…
