JEFFERSON COUNTY, CO — Another online scam is targeting Jefferson County’s older population, officials warned.

The 1st Judicial District Attorney’s Office has received multiple calls from residents who received an electronic statement from Amazon that shows an invoice for a large purchase, which needs “immediate attention,” the office said.

“The invoice looks real and contains the Amazon logo,” the DA’s office said in a fraud alert.

The office is offering several tips to determine whether the invoice is false:

  • Click on the logo and see if a box appears around it
  • Hover your mouse over the sender to see the real email address
  • Look to see if the URL is different than the website (Example: amazonx.com, instead of amazon.com)
