Following a spate of bogus callers and phishing scams, Gardai have alerted the public to a new scam that’s entirely on face-to-face fraud and deception.
In a post that was shared online, Gardaí said that they’re investigating recent incidents where two males were impersonating detectives and these scammers then called to the homes of elderly residents.
While pretending to be Gardai, these fraudsters were carrying something that looked similar to a Garda badge.
The scammers then showed a sum of money that they claimed may belong to the elderly person in question, however, they explained that they needed to compare it with other money that the person had in their home before returning it to them.
