A text message scam going out across Oklahoma is targeting those who get government assistance, specifically people on food assistance programs.”We learned of a text messaging scam that’s targeting Oklahomans, and it’s targeting specific programs that DHS administers,” said Casey White, with the Department of Human Services. “SNAP, which is formally known as food stamps, TANF and several other programs we have here at the agency.”The text message scam says you could win $500 by clicking on a link.”If you click the link, it takes you to an online form, asks you a bunch of demographic information about your family, including Social Security number and banking information,” White said.DHS officials warn people to not click on the link or fill out any of the information.”They are exposing themselves to security risks at their financial institution as well as risks with their credit,” White said.Agency officials said they almost will never text you….
