Scammers prey on desperation and uncertainty and the current eviction moratorium has created lots of both. One report said 167,000 Tennessee households are at risk of eviction for being past due on their rent.
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) imposed a moratorium on residential evictions in September 2020 to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. After several extensions, it was due to expire July 31. On Aug 26, the U.S. Supreme Court ended President Biden’s eviction moratorium.
