Bhopal, July 17 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee President Kamal Nath on Saturday urged Governor Mangubhai C Patel to postpone the Assembly’s proposed Monsoon Session by a day in light of the fact that August 9 is celebrated as International Day of the World’s Indigenous People.
In a communication to Mr Patel, the erstwhile chief minister wrote, “This may be done in keeping with the sentiments of tolerance and respect for the traditions of our adivasi brethren who constitute a sizeable segment of the state’s population. Therefore, August 9 may be declared a public holiday as well.”
Similar letters were addressed to Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Speaker Girish Gautam by Rajya Sabha Member Digvijaya Singh who pointed out that as many as 47 tribal legislators represent reserved constituencies.
