As if we are not concerned enough about the crescendo of cyber-attacks and possible compromise of our private information, now we have yet another list of threats, but this time from a credible agency, the IRS.

The IRS just announced its annual “Dirty Dozen” list of tax scams with a special emphasis on aggressive and evolving schemes related to coronavirus tax relief, including Economic Impact Payments. These threats are truly scams and warrant your attention and caution. Falling victim to these schemes is often costly. One study found that in 2020, consumers lost $56 billion to fraud.

We should all be vigilant and on guard so as not to be easy prey. Usually tax scams arise during tax season or during times of crisis.
