An incident that triggered an Amber Alert on Tuesday in Manchester was apparently a phone scam, police said Wednesday.Manchester police initiated an Amber Alert for a missing mother and her 4-year-old son Tuesday evening, but both were soon found safe. Police said it appears the two were never in danger, and the alert was triggered by a phone scam.The attorney general’s office said it has seen an uptick in phone scams, especially during the pandemic but the one described in this scenario they said is more unusual than the typical ones they see.”Where victims are contacted by individuals posing as people from social security officers or the IRS or pretending to be law enforcement requesting cash or gift cards or things of that nature,” said assistant attorney general Bryan Townsend.
