Quilter chief executive Paul Feeney has written to prime minister Boris Johnson asking for online investment scams and financial harms protection to be included in the government’s Online Safety Bill

In the letter, sent today, Feeney told Johnson he is concerned that online providers, such as Google, are not being held accountable for hosting scam content and advertisements, and that financial harms need to be included in the bill. 

‘I remain concerned that failing to include online investment scams within the scope of the new legislation risks missing a crucial opportunity to take decisive action against such scams by ensuring that search engines and social media platforms have legal responsibility for the content that appears on their platforms,’ Feeney wrote.
