Police are concerned about recent reports of phone scams in parts of regional Victoria.

A police spokesman said the callers were claiming to be from either the Australian Tax Office or the Australian Federal Police, and requesting personal information or credit card details.

“If you receive a call of this nature, hang up immediately,” the spokesman said.

“Do not respond to any requests for information.

“We ask that people be aware this is happening and share this information with friends and family members, to help avoid falling victim to these scammers.

“If you are in any doubt, or think you may have been scammed, call your local police station for advice. You can also report scams to Scamwatch at scamwatch.gov.au.”
