New scam email from ‘Woolworths’ asks customers for small fee in exchange for $250 voucher

A new scam targeting supermarket customers is circulating, asking people to pay a small fee in exchange for a $250 Woolworths voucher.

The email pretends to come from a regional manager of the recipient’s local Woolworths, and has the correct name, address, and even suburb of the person.

It offers a grocery voucher but to have it activated the recipient needs to enter credit card details to pay a processing fee.

Those who’ve fallen for the scam and filled out the form then find multiple amounts charged to their credit card.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission said it has received 176 reports of Woolworths email scams so far this year, with losses of $1,728.

Of those 176 reports, 20 were the same email scam.
