Note: The following refers to a column I wrote April 15 about a scam email I received from “Lonny,” telling me I had 24 to 48 hours to call a certain phone number to cancel an automatic $299.99 one-year renewal of “my” Norton computer security system. I checked to see that McAfee, not Norton, was the security system I had. I then called, and “John” told me all I had to do was allow him to enter my computer to send me a form to fill out. That I was never going to do, exposing me to giving away all my financial and other private information. I then asked, but he couldn’t tell me the name on the account, only repeating that it was “your name.”
